OBN

The Art & Business OBN was set up with the vision of increasing students’ knowledge of opportunities in the cultural sector – particularly in visual art. We aim to help students access these opportunities through networking, events and workshop. We believe that adding an inter-disciplinary dimension to their careers and will help them be successful in this era of change and uncertainty.

In addition to an Event for the Cultural Heritage Programme on 20 May the Art & Business OBN will offer:

Making Museums Work: understanding value in the art world

Date:               22 May 2014

Time:              12.15pm – 1.15pm

Venue:           Saïd Business School Seminar Room A

Description:

The value of works of art is driven by many factors: rarity, provenance, fashion and taste. In this lunchtime discussion, Classical Archaeologist Dr Senta German and Art Historian Dr Jim Harris will explore the role of the museum in establishing and maintaining the value of objects both within and without their collections.  They will examine the interaction of museums with the commercial art world and consider the ways in which museum scholarship and research establishes other criteria for value than the purely monetary.
